Ever wonder how to record or save streaming audio? You know the kind...those annoying songs you can listen to but not save ? (let alone transfer to CD) Or how to go about hosting your own website? There are about a million "I wonder how I could (fill in the blank here) questions when it comes to computers and the internet. Here's a site where you can find answers to at least a few hundred thousand of them. OK, well maybe not quite that many...but quite a few. From basic computer maintenance, hosting websites, working with audio files to resources for programmers, and everything in between: FreeCountry - take time to scroll down the page...a lot at the top is programming related but some miscellaneous links and tutorials/articles and downloads start farther down.
Another site with lots of information, updates and downloads, as well as a good user forum is Software Tips and Tricks. Tho some of the info is pretty basic, there are some interesting things buried in these pages.
Got a file too big to email (who could possibly have a file too big to send to a hotmail address? LMAO) Not enough time for a file transfer? I've heard You Send It is a reliable site (tho I admit I've not used it myself yet.) You simply upload your file, and the recipient can download at their convenience directly from the same site.
Of course, various programs have auto-fill for forms. Here's a good little one that lets you save quite a bit of information. Easy to use and edit. Especially if you do lots of surveys, RoboForm comes in quite handy. (Also good when you've been up too long and forget your name. Or worse, after a night at the pub you go online to order something...and find you can no longer remember your address. Shame it only works when you're on the computer. Would come in quite handy if you could just push a button (like the EASY button from Staples LOL) and the taxi knew just where to take you home!)
This one is pretty cool looking! Yes I know...it's another IM/VOIP program. But it works not only PC to PC, but PC to mobile, mobile to PC, or mobile to mobile as well - and it's FREE! Tho when on your mobile your regular/data minutes are used - but at regular rates - even when calling international long distance. Some kind of data plan is warranted if you plan on using it a lot from a mobile. Admittedly, the downside of my handy dandy do everything overpriced phone is not every program works on it yet (meaning this one!) But I'm anxious to try Nimbuzz out in the future.
Before including the following links, I checked with my probation officer, and he required me to include the following public service announcement. Downloading music files, when they infringe on copyright laws is illegal...please don't construe my inclusion of the following links as encouraging any illegal activity. (OK I was only joking about the probation officer bit...but you must use your own judgment about downloading of files. Listening to streaming audio however is not illegal to the best of my knowledge.)
For those of you who like music here's an interesting site. I used it quite a bit in the past when it was entirely a free site. Now there's a free section and a pay section (which I refuse to use). The songs are older.....sorry no Eminem or 50 Cent to be found. But if your looking for some good oldies you very well may find them here. The only disturbing part of this site is the 70's and 80's (what I like to consider Classics) are Oldies by this sites standards. Despite what my 12-1/2 year old male offspring claims - when God said "Let there be light" I was NOT there to flip the switch...and this parental unit is NOT OLD! Sorry...I got off track a little... The format is entirely Real Player (which you can get for free if you don't have it.) You can listen streaming or download the files. The downside is you can't burn Real Player format to CD and have it work on a regular CD player (tho...ahem...so I'm told...there may be ways around it if you look hard enough.) (This Link was removed as it appears to be broken but in case it ever surfaces it was Beau's Bodacious Oldies.)
And finally for today, I know a few of you actually like country music. A few years ago I was searching for some really really old country songs I remembered my father singing to me as a child. I stumbled on this site (again Real Player only for streaming or download) with some stuff from the good 'ol days of country. Not really my cup of tea but perhaps some of you may enjoy it so I'll go ahead and include it...Ed's Country Memory Lane
Hope you find something enjoyable in here...let me know!
