HTMLC a New Form of Torture

Admittedly, I knew I should be running my pages through an HTML validator. But heck - the first pages I did looked ok...and the validator had so many...many errors (and I didn't really know what to make of them at the time) but it looked ok! So upload via FTP (Finicky Transfer Program) I did - errors and all - page after page. I updated, I changed, I added, I deleted - and still those pages worked relatively OK. With a tiny broom ('cause I don't have a whole lot of extra space in my brain cavity No comments from the peanut gallery please!...) I swept the HTML validation of my pages from my thoughts.
However, my dear friend affectionately dubbed "Papa Bear", while perusing recent page changes (being the "beta" lover he is) saw fit to tell me my music page broke on Firefox. Given my Multiple Browser IFS (Irrational Fear Syndrome) as outlined in a previous post (tagged under "disorders"), I obviously did not even attempt to check my pages in any browser but IE. Included with his email were two screenshots in all their horrendous glory showing the IE version...and the Firefox version. I must admit, the Firefox screen shot was not a pretty picture.
Thus, I set out to correct the HTML. One quick click and...holy!...92 errors? On one little page? Ummm...perhaps the entire site needs a going over and I can do the easy pages first. Yes, that's it! I'll do all the easy pages first, progress to the more difficult ones, and I'll finish with the music page! Yup - made perfect sense to me...ignore the biggest problem until there was nothing left to ignore. With my (somewhat flawed) plan I set out to make it happen. HTML stands not for "Hyper Text Markup Language" (as they'd like you to believe) but it really means "Have To Make Lots of Changes" or HTMLC.
Fast forward almost two weeks and here I am, my first new blog post in far too long. Editing HTMLC cannot be considered creative genius. (Yes I said genius...and NO comments from the darn peanut gallery I told you!!) I've discovered Flash won't validate...and most scripts written by others are flawed and simply more than I'm willing to dissect since they weren't properly preserved in formaldahyde prior to cutting and pasting, and I don't have the proper sharp instruments of death and destruction to cut away at it anyway. (And NO - you in the peanut gallery - that was NOT a reference to my mind not being sharp enough to do it! I just don't want to.)
But tonight, finally, the vast majority of the typical HTML errors are fixed, hopefully rendering my pages more friendly for all browsers. I'm quite sure if they're not "Papa Bear" will let me know...but hopefully he'll wait a day or two before he does...and if I'm lucky he and all my other site visitors will just stick to IE and I can put this horrible torturous exercise behind me.Trackback address for this post
