The Amazing MediaMonkey

by patndoris on May.17, 2008,under Music

I know, I know...some of this info is available on my "Music" page. But recently, I've been doing a lot of re-organization of my music files. I can't tell you how much I love MediaMonkey. It's the absolute best program I've ever tried for my music and media files. So...I'm going to include the "official blurb" from their website, as well as my own personal observations from using this program over the last six months or so...

...

Manage and Sync Lossless Music

From the website:
MediaMonkey is an easy-to-use music manager and media jukebox for serious music collectors and iPod users. It catalogs your CDs, OGG, WMA, MPC, FLAC, APE, WAV and MP3 audio files. It looks up missing Album Art and track information via Freedb and the web, and includes an intelligent tag editor and an automated file and directory renamer to organize your music library. It includes a CD ripper, CD/DVD Burner, and audio converter for saving music, and manual or automated playlist editors for creating music mixes. Its player automatically adjusts volume levels so that you don't have continually fiddle with the volume control and supports hundreds of Winamp plug-ins and visualizations along with a Party Mode for use in public places; or if you prefer, it can use Winamp as the default player. It also includes portable audio device synchronization that allows you to quickly synch tracks and playlists with iPods and other portable audio devices.

My personal observations:
Check out the full product features listing on the MediaMonkey website to see just how amazing this software is! It does everything it says it does...and much more! There are a number of available plug-ins (including one that will allow you to watch your videos on MediaMonkey). With Winamp plug-in support you can show what you're listening to in your instant messaging client. (It also functions quite well with HyperIM for even more customizable "now playing" statuses.) Add scripts and skins and you've got the only media manager you'll ever need. The user forum is great, with lots of third party plug-in scripts available to enhance the program even further, as well as tips and suggestions from other users if you do encounter questions or issues. The MediaMonkey interface is available in English, Dutch, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Czech. Additional languages or online help in other languages can be found in their Download Library. With all the available support, options, and plug-ins - this program just blew me away! It's only available for Windows users but works well on XP and Vista.

I personally have Vista and have had NO problems whatsoever (not even in the beta versions which I absolutely adore.) Unlike many beta builds of other prgrams, which have numerous bugs and flaws, MediaMonkey betas and RC versions have performed flawlessly while letting me try out new features prior to final release. I never hesitate to download a beta version of MediaMonkey.

The free version is awesome, but I opted for the paid "Gold" version - which offers free program upgrades forever and some other nice additional features like file monitoring, unlimited MP3 encoding, auto playlists and a sleep timer. Unlike many other programs, MediaMonkey also allows you to use your paid license for the program on up to 3 computers you own. While I rarely choose the paid version of a program over the free one, I felt MediaMonkey was worth the asking price of only $19.95(US). MediaMonkey is by far my favorite media manager and it's unlikely I'll ever switch. In fact, I rarely open any other media program anymore - Media Monkey does it all for me! If youre convinced - click one of the banners here and give it a try. And remember, MediaMonkey will always have a place on my Music page if you ever want to try it in the future.
