Below is an entry I wrote for a Free Software group on Multiply. As you'll see this is a great little program - well worth trying out!
IrfanView is a wonderful freeware graphics viewing program. It's easy enough for beginners to use and powerful enough for professionals to find useful as well. Some of the basic uses include:
...
- Viewing
- Converting
- Optimizing
- Scanning & Printing
- Creating Slideshows
- Batch Processing
- Playing Movies & Sounds
- ...and much more
For a more complete list of the features of this program you can check out the "What is IrfanView?" page.
One of the things I most enjoy is the way it can be turned into a screen capture device. You can find easy to follow instructions on Eagle_Kiwi's IrfanView page. I have the program in a folder then a desktop icon modified and used solely for screen shots. (A big thank you to my friend Eagle_Kiwi for making this information available and allowing me to post the link to his information here.) He also includes information on how to compress pictures, which is handy when you need to email them. Check out his site - you can find a lot of useful information there as well!
The IrfanView site is quite nice and boasts plenty of information to help users. The program is compatible with Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003 and Vista so you shouldn't have any problems if you choose to use this wonderful, compact yet powerful program.
