Tags: disorders11 May 2008 No, No! I didn't get that confused with FiOS (which according to Verizon is an Irish word meaning knowledge) but is in reality a shortened version of Fiber Optic Service, a service offered by said telecommunications giant. IFOS is something totally different - but knowing me - I bet you guessed that didn't you? (*Wink* You're SO smart!) Might I add, IFOS means nothing in any language I know of, but is another irrational internet fear proudly made up (uh....discovered, I mean discovered...) by me. (Note to self....may need to look into copyrighting or patenting or something, all these newly created (ahem...discovered) internet related mental defects. (Defects?! Did I say defects? Let's call them challenges....) When they make it into mainstream medical diagnosis, I can get RICH! 19 April 2008 Being on the cutting edge of fabricating and otherwise naming imagined internet disorders as I am, I've found a new internet disorder. It's called MSN Disorder. 26 February 2008
Edit: Due to a small glitch - I deleted this and had to repost. Sorry for the annoyance.
Technological OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder): Character trait manifesting itself in the obsessive need to have computer/internet access, programs and peripherals. Affected individuals feel isolated and despondent when such access is denied and feel compelled to return to the PC as soon as possible. 22 July 2007
I can't blame it on OCD this time....well...I could, but it really wouldn't be fair. But I CAN blame it on Irrational Fear Syndrome (IFS). It's a new internet related syndrome (of my own creation of course) whereby I (or anyone else) is afraid to install something on a computer. Seems my totally irrational fear is of having multiple browsers on my computers. Where did it come from? I've no idea, more importantly - how do I cure it? Well, I'm not sure I have the fortitude to do it!

Internet addiction? Who came up with such a silly phrase? Actually, I believe it was originally coined as a joke, but the medical community decided to jump on it and make it “real.” I guess once in a while they choose some other hobby (like gambling) to pick on, but internet addiction is often the flavor of the week. Just how much do you suppose they make treating such an awful, awful addiction? Hmmm....imagine the money we could make offering ONLINE treatment for internet addiction! I stumbled upon this simple quiz from Netaholics Anonymous to see if you’re addicted to the internet…but as usual, I felt compelled to add my own spin to it.

IM (with or without voice) is my primary communication with friends. I’m almost never without one messenger program running - often two or three. I’m finding the widely accepted shortcuts of the chat world spill over into my everyday life. Sometimes I’m not even sure in what time zone I’m operating!
